This series of four Shepard Fairey’s prints are his first foray into diamond dust printing.

Using both black and white diamond dust the surface of the prints shimmer and sparkle as precious objects.

Such glamour conveys both the luxury of the object and the eternal allure of advertising and consumerism.

A friend of mine owns Peace Goddess an original Shepard Fairey Print that has a commanding, almost hypnotic presence in her living room.

While the abstract crescent and diamond forms of these Fairey prints don’t have the figurative gaze of Peace Goddess they still carry Obey Giant’s propoganda like style of direct communication that’s difficult to ignore.

While many know Fairey’s work from the infamous Obama Hope poster there’s a far bigger political intent behind his work.

The Obey Giant manifesto is likened to Heidegger’s philosophy of Phenomenology.

Heidegger explains it as ‘the process of letting things manifest themselves’.

As the Obey website says it ‘attempts to enable people to see clearly something that is right before their eyes but obscured; things that are so taken for granted that they are muted by abstract observation’.
