One of my unwritten rules for selecting art to feature on MoMa is the work has to be available to buy online.

Much as the online art market is growing it’s amazing how much great contemporary art that stops me showing here.

So it was difficult choosing my favourite Thomas Lamb paintings where the original wasn’t already sold on Saatchi Art.

In the end I half un-wrote my unwritten rule and chose a selection of sold and unsold works still available to buy online.

Thomas aims to ‘make paintings which envelope and engage the viewer through the use of space, light and colour’. What’s difficult to convey on the small screen is just how immersive an experience it must be to stand in front of these beautifully painted landscapes.

Some of these Thomas Lamb paintings are up to two metres wide and I can imagine it’s a whole different experience to stand face to face with them – enveloped by the colours and light of each landscape taking up your whole visual field.

Subject & Influences

Thomas Lamb’s recent works are influenced by visits to Japan and Norway as well as his home base in Lincolnshire.

There’s a stillness and sense of calm to each painting. A solitary figure. A distant red house. A stranded tree in Winter. Fleeting moments so easily lost in an everyday walk are captured and celebrated for the magical elements they contain.

About The Artist

Born in Lincolnshire in 1978, Thomas Lamb received his BA in Fine Art at Wimbledon School of Art before getting his M.A. in drawing at the same school.

He was awarded the Sainsbury Scholarship in Painting and Sculpture (British School at Rome), and the Prince of Wales Bursary for the Arts in Athens.
