After digging through page after page of artists on artrepublic looking for a rare gem along came Andy Wilx’s Bear in a Boat and I loved it right away.

The pale and rich gold colours of these Andy Wilx prints are the perfect choice to accentuate the intricately detailed mark-making and fairy-tale like subject matter.

In this interview Andy lists Stanley Donwood among artists he admires. You can see echoes of Donwood in the lines of the waves and buildings these but Andy Wilx prints are a different animal entirely.

You get the feeling that Maurice Sendak’s Where The Wild Things Are is closer at hand in Wilx’s studio than the politically charged news stories that fuel Donwood’s fury.

About The Artist

Born in 1967 Andy Wilx went on to study at Epsom School of Art and Design and now produces prints from his basement. Larger prints are produced at Jealous Printing Studio.
