Polar bears and art have always been a happy combination for me. My degree show featured several clay-fired polar bears which are now scattered around the homes of friends and family patiently waiting on me to become famous.

While they continue to wait I’ve been enjoying these Caspar Williamson prints of polar and panda bears. The polar bear’s angular form conveys a strong design sensibility from an artist whose work seamlessly spans the gaps between illustration, design and fine art printmaking.

There’s a beautiful texture to the prints that you can see more clearly on Caspar’s Flying Machines website. I totally love the fact there’s a layer of glow in the dark paint that lights up the starry background when the lights go out.

There’s also some excellent photos of the prints being put together at a residency at Motherdrucker Print studios in Berlin.

The polar bear prints sold out fast, check eBay for after market limited edition prints.

Low-Tech Print

When I decided to feature Caspar Williamson’s work I had no idea he was the man behind the Low-Tech Print book I bought after taking a local printmaking course. It’s an excellent resource and impossible to browse through without flickers of inspiration creeping up for print-making ideas. Laurence King, the publisher, has some nice photos of inside the book to whet the appetite.

About The Artist

Caspar Williamson is an Illustrator, Designer, Printmaker and Writer based in London. He appears to be very good at all of them. How annoying is that 😉
