Adalberto Ortiz was born in Puerto Rico and grew up in New York City where he went on to graduate from the City University of New York and New York University.

Adalberto works primarily with acrylic paint on board or canvas.

Winter Morning is the painting that first drew me to Ortiz’s work.

I lived in the Midwest for a few years and the lone grain elevator in a winter landscape brought back vivid memories of resilient wooden buildings, standing tall in a flat landscape.

There’s an economy to Adalberto’s brushstrokes that’s almost frugal in what he chooses to reveal and what’s left to our imagination.

There’s a minimalist, stoicism to the buildings in Adalberto’s landscapes. Yet these are not cold, detatched studies.

There’s a life to the light reflecting surfaces. We can imagine an Edward Hopper like scene unfolding in these silent scenes.
