GSA Fine Art Showcase 2014

All profits from the GSA Fine Art Showcase 2014 book will go directly to final year students to help them rebuild their practice.

I’ve just ordered my copy of the GSA Fine Art Showcase 2014.

When the fire broke out in the Charles Rennie Mackintosh designed Glasgow School of Art in May 2014 the last thing I expected was for the degree show to go ahead as planned on the 14th of June.

Though many final year students lost much of their work they all pulled together to create a showcase exhibition in an incredible ten days. The format was redefined in a creative and powerful way.

The showcase involved each final year student presenting one landscape A4 image to represent their work. You can read more about this process and the showcase exhibition in this great Guardian piece.

I lost much of my own work in my final year at a fire at Duncan of Jordanstone twenty years ago so I can relate a little to what the final years students must be going through. It’s great to be able to contribute a little to help the students get back on track with their art.

This book is a real tribute to their resolve and dedication as well as the staff and community who helped make it happen in such a short space of time.
